Match Review: Manchester United 2-0 Sunderland

United moved into the top half of the Premier League table with a fairly comfortable victory over newly-promoted Sunderland at Old Trafford.

Bryan Mbeumo picked out Mason Mount in the penalty area and the midfielder took his chance well, with a composed finish to give the reds the lead in the 8th minute of the game - his third Premier League goal for the club since arriving at Old Trafford in 2023.

Amad Diallo then went close to his first goal of the season after some impressive play down the right hand side; Mbeumo was also denied by Sunderland 'keeper Roefs just moments later as was United captain Bruno Fernandes, who saw his impressive effort tipped onto the crossbar.

Benjamin Sesko doubled United's lead on 31 minutes with a close range finish following Diogo Dalot's long throw - the Slovenian striker's first goal at Old Trafford.

Matheus Cunha headed wide late on from a corner before the impressive Lammens made a decent save to keep his clean sheet in tact on his United debut.

Up next for Amorim's side is a trip to Anfield to face old rivals Liverpool after the international break on Sunday, October 19.
